Blind Students in Indonesia Recite Verses Using Braille Quran
“There are currently four participants in the braille Quran recital sessions, and they are generally students with blindness,” said principal Yessi Kurniawati, Antaranews reported
The braille Quran reciting sessions are carried out routinely, nearly every single day during school hours. Yessi said the disabled are proficient in reading the verses in the Quran despite their visual limitations.
She acknowledged that there are a number of students who have difficulties reciting the Quran, which mainly involve maintaining the flow of the recitation. Fortunately, she added, the students are able to overcome the limitations of braille.
Yessi added that understanding the skill to read, let alone properly recite verses in the Holy book, is not a quick process as evident in one of the students in the school, Sigit Subekti, who needed four years to smoothly recite the Quran with braille.
